Philadelphia Theatre Workshop presents a first with the Philadelphia premiere of Kimberly Akimbo by award winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire directed by Robin Eisenberg For Immediate Release: February 9, 2005 Philadelphia Theatre Workshop announces the second show of its opening season with Kimberly Akimbo by award winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. Directed by Robin Eisenberg, it is a dark, hilarious, poignant story about a teenager and her family's wild attempts at being normal. With this production, Philadelphia Theatre Workshop achieves a set of firsts for Philadelphia. Premiering on March 5, local audiences will have the pleasure of seeing Kimberly Akimbo for the first time at a Philadelphia venue. Having won awards from the L.A. Drama Critics Circle among others, this is also the first time one of David Lindsay-Abaire's plays is being produced here. Kimberly Akimbo tells the story of Kimberly, a teenager with an aging disorder. While surviving her lunatic family's dysfunction - mom is a hypochondriac and Dad is perpetually drunk - Kimberly comes of age physically and figuratively confronting her own mortality with a nerdy teenage boy through a wild scheme set in motion by her ex-con aunt. Running March 4 - 13, 2005 at Walnut Street Theatre Studio 5, 825 Walnut Street, tickets for Kimberly Akimbo are $18 at the door and $15 in advance.
