Media Theatre visits Camelot in May For Immediate Release: March 29, 2005 King Arthur, Queen Guenevere and Sir Lancelot have quite a story to tell and The Media Theatre has the season's only professional production of Camelot, allowing audiences to go back in time to the days of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The classic Lerner and Loewe musical plays at The Media Theatre May 4-29. The four time Tony Award winning musical is based on T.H. White's novel "The Once and Future King." The novel actually consists of four books. Following Disney's purchase of the rights to the first book (The Sword in the Stone) in the late 1950's, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe acquired the rights to the final three books that focus on King Arthur's later years. Dealing with the love triangle between Arthur, Guenevere, and Lancelot, Camelot became one of Broadway's most romantic musicals. Lerner and Loewe had been so successful with the ground breaking musical My Fair Lady that many theatre critics questioned their ability to create a worthy follow-up. On December 3, 1960, when Camelot opened at the Majestic Theatre to rave reviews and standing ovations, theatre critics knew Lerner and Loewe were one of Broadway's legendary creative teams. Camelot ran for 873 performances. Lerner and Loewe never collaborated again, although Broadway was given one of its most gorgeous scores with Camelot, which includes the songs "If Ever I Would Leave You", "C'est Moi", and "How to Handle A Woman". 2004 Barrymore Nominee Jesse Cline directs Camelot at Media Theatre, which features professional performers from New York and Philadelphia.
