Media Contact: Karen DiLossi, Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, 215.413.7150

The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia is seeking submissions for the Lifetime Achievement Award, given annually at the Barrymore Awards Ceremony and Gala. The Barrymore Awards, created in 1994, are the area's only comprehensive theatre awards program, designed to empower artists by recognizing excellence within the local theatre community. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given in recognition of an individual who has, over the course of many years, devoted his or her time, talent, and energy to the Greater Philadelphia theatre community, making a significant contribution to the artistic landscape of our city and region. Past recipients include: last year's winner, Obie Award winning playwright and People's Light & Theatre Company member Louis Lippa; actor, regional SAG President and mentor Tom McCarthy; Director of the Philadelphia Theatre Initiative, a program of the Pew Charitable Trusts, Marcia Salvatore; Catharine "Kaki" Marshall, a renowned educator and advocate of children's theatre, as well as Adele Magner, founder and former Executive Director of Philadelphia Young Playwrights; John E. Allen, Jr., the founder of Freedom Theatre; longtime theatre supporter Frank C.P. McGlinn; actor Doug Wing; Germantown Theatre Guild's Katherine "Kitty" Minehart; and Theatre Center Philadelphia's Albert Benzwie.

The Theatre Alliance, in conjunction with the awards' supervisory group, the Barrymore Awards Oversight Committee, seeks nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award from members of the theatre community. Anyone wishing to nominate a candidate for the award must submit a one to two-page narrative about the candidate. Please include a description of the nature and scope of his or her work and the impact it has made on the theatre community. Once all nominations have been received, the committee will vote on and select the award winner. Previous candidates may also be considered again providing there are new insights on their work and dedication. Information on new nominees is, as always, welcomed and encouraged.

Nominations must be received by June 24, 2005, and may be submitted via e-mail: barrymore@theatrealliance.org; fax: (215) 413-7155; or U.S. mail: Lifetime Achievement Award, Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, Attn: Karen DiLossi, 1616 Walnut Street, Suite 1800, Philadelphia, PA 19103. Please call (215) 413-7150 with any questions.

Come celebrate with the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia at the 2005 Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre on Monday, October 10, 2005 at the Merriam Theater located on the Avenue of the Arts!

The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia strengthens and leads the region's richly diverse theatre community by promoting positive awareness and serving as a resource for information, professional development and advocacy.
