The Delaware Shakespeare Festival presents LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST

For Immediate Release: June 23, 2005
Media Contact: Gregory Robleto, Delaware Shakespeare Festival, 302.494.6366

The Delaware Shakespeare Festival returns in 2005 with William Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost directed by Jeffrey Robleto. The play runs from July 22 to August 6, 2005.

In this endearing play, Shakespeare explores the struggle between the head and the heart. The King of Navarre and his three noblemen denounce all worldly pleasures, including women, to further their intellect. But how long can the men maintain their vow of academia when the Princess of France and her three beautiful ladies arrive at court? Enjoy witty repartee and sharp banter as the women teach the men a lesson about love that they will not find in any book.

"Love's Labour's Lost is unique among Shakespeare's comedies," explains director Jeff Robleto, "because neither the head nor the heart wins in the end." Though the men do succumb to love, instead of multiple marriages and happily ever after, Shakespeare creates an unexpected twist that forces the men to continue to prove their love from afar.

The Delaware Shakespeare Festival is proud to present this charming yet lesser-known work by the Bard. "For years," says Robleto, "the play was neglected for not fitting typical theatrical conventions. There is no defined hero and no villain. Yet the play's central themes of idealism vs. practicality and emotion vs. logic are struggles that are familiar to any audience."

** The Delaware Shakespeare Festival will present Love's Labour's Lost on July 22, 23, 29, 30 and August 5, 6 at 7 p.m. and July 24 and 31 at 5 p.m. Audiences are encouraged to arrive an hour prior to dine and enjoy pre-show activities. Tickets are $7 general admission. For more information, visit www.delshakes.org or call 302-764-0113. **

The Delaware Shakespeare Festival, founded in 2003, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Festival seeks to make Shakespeare accessible to everyone and to be an annual summer tradition in the First State.
