The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia presents a Spark theatre showcase... 10 for 10, July 26-31, 2005

For Immediate Release: July 1, 2005
Media Contact: Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, 215.413.7150

10 for 10 Spark, a program of The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia, presents its first-ever small theatre festival, 10 for 10, showing at Mum Puppettheatre, 115 Arch Street, from July 26th to July 31st. Tickets range from $10 to $25 and can be purchased by contacting the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia at (215) 413-7150 or online at www.theatrealliance.org.

Ten theatre companies, all Spark members, will each take to the stage to perform a signature ten minute play. Participating theatre companies working in cooperation with each other will create a one-of-a-kind production representing the many styles, aesthetics, and points of view of Philadelphia's up and coming theatre scene. From musicals to world premieres, from womanist performance to mask and comedy, 10 for 10 is guaranteed to have something for everyone.

Developed out of the Theatre Alliance's fast growing membership, Spark's mission is to ignite opportunities and provide resources to Philadelphia's smaller and emergent theatre companies. Spark's goal is to help these companies to become self-sustaining members of Philadelphia's large, and ever-growing, theatre community. The Theatre Alliance initiated support in the form of informational meetings and dialogues where companies learned and shared the tools of the non-profit trade, (ie. how to market a production, the ins and outs of fundraising, board development, tax regulations) and put these business and development experiences to practical use by planning and producing a Spark theatre showcase, 10 for 10.

"As our newest program, Spark has quickly become an incredibly informative and valuable service for our small and developing theatre companies," says the Theatre Alliance's Executive Director, James Haskins. "As more companies come onto the scene and provide greater depth to the community as a whole, the Philadelphia region becomes a more highly regarded destination for first-class theatre." Karen DiLossi, the Theatre Alliance's Director of Programs and Services adds, "I believe the Spark showcase festival will prominently display what a great community of theatre artists we have in Philadelphia. Our efforts with the Spark program have really put smaller theatre companies in touch with one another socially and creatively, as well as connected them with the information they need to ensure their longevity. Our hope is that through these collaborations, these companies will attain success, independence, and eventually give counsel to future generations of Spark companies."
