Hunger Theatre Presents Samuel Beckett's Poetic Masterpiece ENDGAME October 26 - November 20, 2005 at the Triangle Theater

For Immediate Release: October 17, 2005
Media Contact: Melissa Nannen, Hunger Theatre, 215.545.0876

Hunger Theatre is proud to present Samuel Beckett's ENDGAME, a contemporary classic of immense pathos and humor. Hunger Theatre is looking to present a fresh and rewarding interpretation of what many consider to be one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century. It is a work of extreme humanity, poetry and the ability to continue in the face of a 'gnawing' futility.

Our last production in Philadelphia was a staging of Beckett's WAITING FOR GODOT at the Walnut Street Studio Five in the Fall of 2001, in which J. Cooper Robb of the Philadelphia Weekly stated, "Godot is an extremely difficult play to perform, and Hunger's cast is excellent." We are now excited to tackle the challenging, raw and wonderfully 'human' play that is ENDGAME, with a claustrophobic, unique, bold and burlesque staging.

Thomas Bazar directs a strong and versatile cast. Vincent Quintiliani will play the blind and Lear-like "Hamm". Playing opposite Quintiliani will be Robert Schmidt in the role of "Clov". Clov is the ying to Hamm's yang. These are two of the richest, most complex characters in modern drama. Dennis Smeltzer will play the 'accursed progenitor' or more specifically Hamm's father - "Nagg", and Tina Brock will play his ethereal spouse, "Nell". Both are absurdly relegated to live in trash bins.

Bazar directs with abandon, revealing the absurd shadings of ENDGAME with humor and primal truth. Why go? To celebrate the resilience of the human spirit within the absurdity of a world that seems utterly redundant and futile. This production looks to embrace Samuel Beckett's immortal words, "I can't go on.I'll go on."
