  The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia announces holiday themed theatre productions throughout the region... 'Tis the Season for Theatre, November 25 - January 8 For Immediate Release: November 23, 2005 For ticket information, see contact information of individual theatres below. The Theatre Alliance celebrates the Holiday spirit, in all its forms, at many of our theatres throughout the cities and suburbs of the Delaware Valley this winter 2005: 'Tis the Season for Theatre! Laughing, crying, and humming along are not only permitted but encouraged! Twelve theatre companies offer a variety of traditional and unique holiday experiences. The classics, irreverent holiday comedies, and musicals are all represented from Thanksgiving through the New Year (November 25th through January 8th). The nation's oldest theatre, Walnut Street Theatre, produces the classic great for the whole family, A Christmas Carol; meanwhile, Flashpoint Theatre Company, in its sophomore season produces a classic for those drained by holidays with the family, The Santaland Diaries & Season's Greetings. Comedy abounds at the Adrienne Theatre: 1812 Productions premieres their sixth homage to our comic roots with Double Down starring veterans and Barrymore Award-winning actors Tony Braithwaite and Scott Greer; all the while, just across the Adrienne lobby, Theater Catalyst taps into the funny with their first holiday show, Amerrycan Xmas, featuring talented rookies Jess Conda, Jenny Kulick, Rob Neddoff, and Gregg Pica. Bristol Riverside Theater, Ritz Theatre Company, and Delaware Theatre Company serve up shows good to satisfy the appetites of those who enjoy caroling through the holidays with three seasonal musicals. James Haskins, Executive Director of the Theatre Alliance was delighted at the holiday selections for theatre saying "This year, we even have a world premiere holiday offering with Azuka Theatre's 'Twas the Night. With such a broad array, there's a theatre celebration for everyone this holiday season!" There are also holiday themed shows from The Media Theatre (Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates), and Random Acts of Theater at the Triangle Theater (Holiday Cabaret) not to mention Hedgerow Theatre and The Merriam Theater also producing A Christmas Carol. Chockfull of everyone's favorite holiday songs, Once Upon A December is the perfect way to share the warmth and joy of the holiday season with family and friends. Ritz Theatre Company December 1 - December 18, 2005 609.858.5230, www.ritztheatreco.org The tale of the miserly Scrooge's transformation after visitations from the Spirits of Christmases Past, Present and Yet To Come. Check your cynicism in at the door and you'll find a supporting cast of well-loved characters, including Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim, and with a smattering of carols all adding to the atmosphere of good cheer. Delaware Theatre Company by Roger Bean, directed by Roger Bean November 30 - January 1, 2006 302.594.1100, www.delawaretheatre.org Four high school chums re-form their old act, a Supremes-like singing group, to perform at a less-than-supreme gig: the annual Christmas party at the local hardware store. With hits like "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree," "Run Rudolph Run" and "Santa Baby," Winter Wonderettes is a must-see holiday musical hit. Flashpoint Theatre Company by David Sedaris, adapted by Joe Mantello, directed by Meghann Williams December 1 - December 17, 2005 215.514.0361, www.flashpointtheatre.org Flashpoint is thrilled to bring back this hysterical holiday classic in an all new production! Double Down brings us the world of classic comedy teams starring Philadelphia favorites Scott Greer and Tony Braithwaite handling the task of taking on 100 years of duos, both comedic and dynamic. Using a schoolroom as their setting, Braithwaite & Greer will dissect the double act and give us a lesson in comic chemistry. Random Acts of Theater at the Triangle Theater December 9 - December 17, 2005 215.763.0110, www.triangletheater.com Random Acts of Theater at the Triangle Theater is producing the third in its series of popular cabarets. The Holiday Cabaret will feature excerpts from Christopher Durang's "Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge" and Jeff Goode's "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues". The bill will also include holiday songs from the Triangle Singers, original monologues and the fabulous Goldi Blondell from New York City by way of Louisiana. Theater Catalyst by Gin Hobbs, directed by John Stanton December 7 - December 23, 2005 215.563.4330 Theater Catalyst presents the World Premiere of Amerrycan Xmas by local playwright Gin Hobbs, writer of ESP's Hands Across Veronica and Trojan Wars, offers her wicked take on the Holidays in this hilariously blasphemous Christmas comedy of bad manners with live original songs. An extremely dysfunctional, suburban "Amerrycan" family desperately tries to paint a happy holiday portrait for Steve, an African exchange student, with disastrous results.
