Arden Theatre Company Offers Theatre Classes for Kids

Philadelphia, PA - Arden Theatre Company announces a new semester of fun and enriching theatre classes for kids. Classes teach skills from design to character development and include perennial favorites such as Story Crafters and Costume Design. New this semester are exciting dinosaur classes at The Academy of Natural Sciences to complement the Arden's holiday family show The Dinosaur Musical. Perfect for every schedule, the semester offers choices of one-day workshops, four-week and eight-week classes. Classes are taught by some of the area's most talented and experienced theatre artists.

Dinosaur Props and Dinosaur Improv will be held at The Academy of Natural Sciences at 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia. All other classes and workshops will be held at Arden Theatre Company, located at 40 N. 2nd Street in Philadelphia. ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS

  • Dinosaur Props at The Academy of Natural Sciences!
    Grades 1-6 • Saturday, February 4 from 1pm - 4pm
    Get into the museum, see dinosaur bones and then make some fake dinosaur bones with Arden Prop Master Robert Elliott to take home! Tuition: $40 plus $5 material fee.

  • Dinosaur Improv at The Academy of Natural Sciences!
    Grades 3-6 • Saturday, February 11 from 1pm - 4pm
    Get into the museum, see dinosaur skeletons, then act out your own dino-stories with one of The Dinosaur Musical's own cast members! Tuition: $40.

  • Costume Design
    Grades 1 - 6 • President's Day! Monday, February 20 from 1pm - 4pm
    Design your own costume and learn what it takes to go from design to real costume in this hands-on, imaginative workshop. Tuition: $40 plus $7 material fee.

  • Improvisation
    Grades 3-6 • Saturday, March 4 from 1pm - 4pm
    Improvisation is at the heart of acting, storytelling and comedy. It's an uproarious and energetic afternoon of acting! Tuition: $40.

  • Set Design
    Grades 1-6 • Saturday, March 11 from 1pm - 4pm
    If you love to paint and draw, come to this workshop that teaches you how to design in 3-D! Tuition: $40.

EIGHT-WEEK CLASSES
Saturdays, January 21 - March 11

  • Story Crafters
    Grades 1 - 2 • 10 am - 11:30 am
    Star in your favorite book! Kids read their favorite stories with their teacher and work together to retell the story dramatically. Learn how to create a character and be a great storyteller! Tuition: $175.

  • ACT: Movement and Character
    Grades 3 - 4 • 10 am - 12 pm
    Each character thinks, walks, speaks and acts differently. Learn to create a rich and interesting character from the inside out. Scene work included. Tuition: $175.

  • ACT 2: Character and Story
    Grades 5 - 6 • 10 am - 12 pm
    Kids work on scenes and specific acting techniques while working on voice and movement techniques. An energetic approach to acting! Tuition: $175.

FOUR-WEEK CLASSES
Saturdays, January 28 - February 18

  • Playwrighting
    Grades 1 - 2 • 10am -11am
    Grades 3 - 5 • 11am - 12 pm

    Unlock your imagination and start writing stories today! Younger kids write plays together; older kids write individual scenes and leave class with completed, self-written plays! Tuition: $75.
