World Premiere of Four-Time Tony Award-Winning Playwright Terrence Mcnally's Some Men Concludes Philadelphia Theatre Company's 30th Anniversary Season, May 12-June 11, 2006

Philadelphia Theatre Company concludes its 30th Anniversary season with the world premiere of Some Men by Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally. Some Men will run May 12 through June 11 at 1714 Delancey Street. Directed by Philip Himberg, the ensemble cast features Don Amendolia, Brandon Bales, Stephen Bogardus, Duane Boutte, Suzzanne Douglas, Malcolm Gets, John Glover, Tom Judson, Barbara Walsh, and Gregory Wooddell.

Previews begin Friday, May 12 with opening night on Wednesday, May 17. Performances run Tuesdays through Sundays until June 11. Tickets are $31 to $49, with discounts for students, seniors and groups and are available by calling the PTC Box Office at 215-985-0420 or visiting www.phillytheatreco.com.

Funny and touching, Some Men looks at the evolution of gay relationships and same-sex marriage in America. From the Harlem Renaissance to the Stonewall riots and beyond, Some Men celebrates where we've been and where we're going. PTC's relationship with McNally extends back seventeen years, covering not only the world premiere production of the Tony Award-winning Master Class, but also the Philadelphia premieres of Love! Valour! Compassion!, Lips Together, Teeth Apart, and Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.

Terrence McNally has received four Tony Awards - for Master Class and Love! Valour! Compassion!, which also won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Play as well as the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play, and for Ragtime and Kiss of the Spiderwoman for Best Book of a Musical. His most recent work, Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life recently played on Broadway. His newest play Dedication or The Stuff of Dreams had its premiere at Primary Stages in New York this summer. Crucifixion had its world premiere at the New Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco in September. McNally also recently wrote the book for the musical Man of No Importance which was produced at Lincoln Center. Recent Broadway credits include the revival of Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune and the book for the musical The Full Monty. He is currently working on the book for the musical Catch Me If You Can by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman.

Philip Himberg is in his tenth year as the Producing Artistic Director of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program. At Sundance, he has overseen the Sundance Theatre Laboratories, which support the development of new work for the stage, including Doug Wright's I Am My Own Wife (Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize, 2004); Adam Guettel and Craig Lucas' The Light in the Piazza (Six Tony Awards); Grey Gardens by Doug Wright, Michael Korie and Scott Frankel; Carol Burnett and Carrie Hamilton's Hollywood Arms; and Well by Lisa Kron, currently on Broadway. Mr. Himberg was co-artistic director of Playwrights Horizons in New York, where he produced and directed over sixty plays.

Don Amendolia has appeared on Broadway in My One and Only and Stepping Out, for which he received a Dramalogue Award, and off-Broadway in The Firebugs and Cloud 9, for which he received an LA Drama Critics Circle Award. His film credits include Bounce, Boogie Nights, Ed Wood and Wayne's World.

Brandon Bales has appeared at Real Theatreworks, Spring Theatreworks, Kalita Humphreys Theatre and Garland Civic Theater. He is a recent graduate of Southern Methodist University.

Stephen Bogardus has appeared on Broadway in Love! Valour! Compassion!, earning a Tony Award nomination and an Obie Award, and in Falsettos as Whizzer, a role he originated in In Trousers, March of the Falsettos, and Falsettoland. His other Broadway appearances include Man of La Mancha, James Joyce's The Dead, Grapes of Wrath, and Les Miserables. Regionally he has performed at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, La Jolla Playhouse, and Arena Stage. On television he has had recurring roles in One Life to Live and Ed, as well as guested on Criminal Intent, Law & Order, and Law & Order Special Victims Unit.

Duane Boutte has appeared on Broadway in Parade and Carousel as well as Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in Civil Sex and at Playwrights Horizons in The Heliotrope Bouquet and The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin. He is a frequent guest at Denver Center Theatre Company, Berkeley Shakespeare Festival, Baltimore Center Stage, Arena Stage, Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Alabama Shakespeare Festival.

Suzzanne Douglas has been featured in the films School of Rock; How Stella Got Her Groove Back, which earned her a Black Oscar; Tap, for which she received the NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actress; and Sounder, for which she won a Black Reel Award for Best Actress in a television movie. She was a series regular on The Parent Hood and had a recurring role on Touched By An Angel. She has appeared on Broadway in Threepennny Opera, Into the Woods, and The Tap Dance Kid.

Malcolm Gets is the recipient of two Obie Awards for Merrily We Roll Along and The Two Gentlemen of Verona, two Drama Desk nominations for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for Merrily We Roll Along and Amour, a Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance in Finian's Rainbow. Regionally he has performed at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Hartford Stage Company, Westport Country Playhouse and numerous productions at Yale Repertory Theatre.

John Glover returns to PTC where he appeared in Edward Albee's The Goat or, Who is Sylvia? for which he received a Barrymore Award nomination. He won a Tony Award and Obie Award for Love! Valour! Compassion!, a St. Clair Bayfield Award for The Winter's Tale at New York Shakespeare Festival, and the LA Drama Critics Circle Award for The Traveler at Mark Taper Forum. On television he appears regularly as Lex Luther's father in Smallville and has received two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a mini series or movie (Nutcracker: Money, Madness & Murder, and An Early Frost); two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a comedy series (Frasier) and drama series (LA Law), and an Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (Crime & Punishment).

Barbara Walsh has starred on Broadway as Trina in Falsettos, earning a Tony nomination and Drama Desk Award and a LA Ovation Award, and in Hairspray, Blood Brothers, Big and Nine. Regionally she has appeared at George Street Playhouse, Hartford Stage, Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, Goodspeed Opera House and Cincinnati Playhouse.

Gregory Wooddell has appeared in numerous productions at The Shakespeare Theater as well as at The Alley Theatre. He is a co-star on Third Watch and has a recurring role on Days of Our Lives. He is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School.

Some Men brings together PTC alumni set designer Loy Arcenas (Trumbo), lighting designer David Lander (Nickel and Dimed), costume designer Jane Greenwood (Master Class and Birdie) and sound designer Fitz Patton (Barbra's Wedding). PTC's dramaturg for Some Men is Warren Hoffman.
