For Immediate Release: April 27, 2006
Media Contact: Ted Taylor, Act II Playhouse, 215.576.7212

Act II Playhouse has announced that the Montgomery County Head Start program, which offers preschool services to the financially disadvantaged, will be the third recipient of proceeds from its Invited Dress Rehearsal Benefit program.

The Playhouse will open its doors for the dress rehearsal of its fifth show of the 2005-2006 season, Closer Than Ever, on Thursday, May 11 at 8 PM. Admission is "pay what you can" (suggested donation: $10), and all proceeds will go to Head Start.

Head Start's services are intended to prepare children to enter kindergarten and to improve the conditions necessary for their success in school and life. The program strongly emphasizes the involvement of families and the local community to assure that programs are responsive to the unique needs of each community.

With strong advance sales for Closer Than Ever, Richard Maltby and David Shire's timeless musical, Act II Playhouse will continue its community outreach program whereby local Ambler area non-profits will benefit from such dress rehearsals. Montgomery County Head Start benefits over 500 children and operates 29 classrooms, including one in Ambler at Mattison Avenue Elementary School.

"The Playhouse looks forward to continuing to build good will within our community," says David-Michael Kenney, Act II Playhouse's Managing Director. "And worthwhile programs such as Montgomery County Head Start need all the help they can get."

Closer Than Ever opens with preview performances May 12-18 (opening night is May 19) and runs through June 11. The 2005-06 season is sponsored by Sunrise Assisted Living of Dresher, PA. This production stars Scott Boulware, Christopher Sapienza, Lynette Knapp and Therese Walden, the Director is William Roudebush.
