Ms. Yoblick, a seasoned performer is also featured in the new movie, Shadowboxer which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival. HATG Theater Company is also pleased to announce that the slam is going to make an appearance at the 2006 Philadelphia Fringe's Late Night Cabaret when we do our Grand Slam! The Grand Slam will be all the past winners of our monologue slam competing at the Cabaret. For us to prepare for this and our upcoming productions, we will be taking hiatus over the summer months and returning during the Fringe Festival. So, please don't miss out on the final monologue slam for the summer months. Past judges for the monologue slam have been, Bill Felty: casting director for the Wilma Theater, Jane Stojack: founding and managing director for the Triangle Theater, Donna Snow: acting head for Temple University's MFA program, Aileen McCulloch: Executive Director for Vagabond Acting Troupe, Madi Distefano: Artistic Director for Brat Productions and David Ingram: Local Theater Director and Temple University Theater Professor. The June 14th slam introduces new judges to the mix including Jen Childs: Artistic Director for 1812 Productions, Erin Lucas: Artistic Director for Flashpoint Theatre Company and Dan Kern: Professor for Temple University. Executive Director for Vagabond Acting Troupe, Aileen McCulloch wrote "I highly recommend this. It is a great way to pull out your grade A stuff and actually get some quick response from it!" The Starving Artists' Monologue Slam also gives the audience an opportunity to have a behind the scenes look into actors at their best: performing their monologues that are normally only seen at an audition behind closed doors. A monologue slam for actors is the same as a jam session for musicians. Monologue Slam participant, Amy Lewis from our January slam said she "will take with me fond memories of the night when actors just got together to have fun! The Starving Artists' Monologue Slam has been featured in The Philadelphia Weekly and in The Philadelphia City Paper. The Philadelphia Weekly said that "given the wealth and diversity of thespian talent within the city, success shouldn't be a problem" in making the slam a monthly event. There are three ways to get involved in the next slam! You can pre-register to do up to a three minute monologue to be judged by local theater professionals. The winner gets 100.00 cash and a slot in the Late Night Cabaret's Grand Slam at the 2006 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. You can show up the night of the slam, and do an up to one minute monologue and win 25.00! This is judged by the audience, so bring a lot of friends and you can sway the vote.
