Act II Playhouse Eighth Season Opens in September

For Immediate Release: May 31, 2006
Media Contact: Ted Taylor, Act II Playhouse, 215.576.7212

Act II Playhouse will launch its upcoming season as Montgomery County's premier professional theatre and present five plays beginning September 22, 2006 and concluding on June 10, 2007. "This is our eighth season," notes Producing Artistic Director Stephen Blumenthal, "and actors are auditioning not only from Philadelphia but from New York as well. So we must be doing something right."

The new season also features reserved seating for the first time and an early-bird season ticket package until June 30, 2006. Tickets are on sale at the box office, 56 E. Butler Avenue, Ambler, PA or by phone at 215-654-0200.

The first play of Act II's new season, beginning with previews on September 22 and ending October 22, will be the Off-Broadway hit Bad Dates by Theresa Rebeck. Armed with a sharp wit and a killer collection of designer shoes, 30-something single mom Haley Walker is diving back into the dating pool after a 12-year dry spell. Her dating disasters make for a fun and fashionable comedy! After all, there's nothing better than hearing about someone else's bad dates!

Next, with previews commencing on November 17 and running through December 17, will be Every Christmas Story Ever Told by Michael Carleton, John Alvarez and Jim Fitzgerald. Three men and a "reingoat" tell tales of Christmas from around the world for one and all! Part Big Bang, part Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, this zany tale spoofs all of your favorite Christmas stories with high-energy fun. Along the way, it has fun with Chanukah and Kwanzaa as well. You'll never look at the holidays the same!

The third play, starting on January 19 and ending on February 18, 2007, will be Scotland Road by Jeffrey Hatcher. This play will be directed by Act II's own Steve Blumenthal. It's the 1990's-a woman is rescued from the North Atlantic wearing 1900's clothing and she will only say one word: Titanic. No one can believe her story but, by the play's end, everyone's identity will be in question. Mystery continues on the high seas in this chilling drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat at its gripping conclusion.

Following that and beginning with previews on March 9 will be Almost, Maine by John Cariani. This Off-Broadway comedy hit is about the residents of a small, fictional town in northern Maine, who are falling in and out of love at an alarming rate. Love is discovered, and hearts are broken and mended-almost-in this midwinter's night's dream. The play will run through April 8.

The final offering of the season, with previews starting May 11, is I Sent a Letter to My Love by Jeffrey Sweet and music icon Melissa Manchester. It's 1955, and Amy places a correspondence ad on a whim, but her notion of romance backfires when her wheelchair-bound brother is her only respondent. Just when all seems to get out of hand, longing, love and loyalty conspire to open up new doors. Truly a soul-stirring musical. This play, and the season, will conclude on June 10.

Season and individual tickets are now on sale. Ticket prices are scaled according to the selected performance. There will be a preview package priced at $115-per-person, the popular "Tuesday Night Special" package priced at $135 and including dinner discounts at five local restaurants, a weekday package priced at $140-per-person and the weekend package scaled at $160-per-person. For additional information call 215-654-0200, visit the box office at 56 E. Butler Avenue in Ambler, PA during business hours, or on the Internet at www.act2.org.

PRESS CREDENTIALS FOR OPENING NIGHT PERFORMANCES SHOULD ALWAYS BE REQUESTED DIRECTLY THROUGH THE BOX OFFICE - 215-654-0200.
