"Broadway Rhapsody" Closes BRT Summer Musicale Series For Immediate Release: July 25, 2006 Keeping with the tradition set in the summers of 2004 and 2005 Bristol Riverside Theatre will close its Summer Musicale series with a trip down the Great White Way in Broadway Rhapsody, running August 3-13, 2006. Just as Showstopper Broadway I and II the past two years featured some of the greatest numbers in Musical history, this year's finale to the Musicale Series will feature some of the unforgettable songs from all-time Broadway box office smashes. "After a season of relative departures from the norm in our Musicale Series, Broadway Rhapsody returns us to a Musicale staple: the songs of Broadway," said BRT Artistic Director Edward Keith Baker when asked about the production. "Composers will range from Gershwin who brought us Porgy and Bess, to Andrew Lloyd-Webber, to Jonathan Larson who wrote Rent. It should be an exciting evening of great diversity from musical theatre history." Songs in Broadway Rhapsody will be include selections from early Broadway classics like Showboat and South Pacific, successes from the mid 20th century like Sweet Charity, and Jesus Christ Superstar, the 1970s and 80s will be represented by A Chorus Line and Les Miserables, and modern selections will be heard from Rent and Hairspray. These are just a few of the hit shows that will be featured in this 30 song, two-hour concert. The cast of five will include BRT veterans Bethe B. Austin (Olympus On My Mind, Evita, Brigadoon, Texas Flyer, and numerous Musicales) and Keith Spencer (featured this summer in For Sentimental Reasons: A Tribute to Nat 'King' Cole among other Musicales). Returning from BRT's most recent musicale War Songs will be Carl Anthony-Tramon. Filling out the group will be BRT newcomers Veronica Chapman-Smith and Dara Seitzman. Broadway Rhapsody has a limited run of eight performances that start on August 3 and run through August 13, 2006.
