HATG Theater Company's Starving Artists' Monologue Slam returns to Fergie's Pub on October 18th and November 15th. This event allows local actors and actresses to perform in a welcoming environment and also gives them a chance to win money. The actors get to perform their monologues in front of local theater professionals and get instant feedback while networking in Philadelphia's emerging theater community.

The Starving Artists' Monologue Slam has been very successful in the past year with notice in many publications, including Philadelphia Magazine's "The Top Ten Cool Things to do", The Philadelphia City Paper's "Just do it" and Philadelphia Weekly's "Art Pick".

The Slam was also asked to be part of the 2006 Live Art's Festival-Late Night Cabaret. We made this a special event by featuring all of our past winners and fan favorites in a Grand Slam, with a prize package that included a headshot package, a massage, two tickets to HATG Theater Company shows, and a one hundred dollars cash prize.

Past judges for the monologue slam have been, Bill Felty: casting director for the Wilma Theater, Jane Stojack: founding and managing director for the Triangle Theater, Donna Snow: acting head for Temple University's MFA program, Aileen McCulloch: Executive Director for Vagabond Acting Troupe, Madi Distefano: Artistic Director for Brat Productions and David Ingram: Local Theater Director and Temple University Theater Professor.

The October 18th monologue slam will introduce Mark Mackner as the slam host and the judges will include Lois Kitz from Philadelphia Theater Company, Angie Zuck from Simpatico Theatre Company and Hannah Tsapatoris MacLeod from Naked Feet Productions. We will also feature our Grand Slam winner, Polly MacIntyre performing her winning monologue. The October 18th monologue slam will have a Halloween Theme with prizes to match the theme.

The Starving Artists' Monologue Slam gives the audience an opportunity to have a behind the scenes look into actors at their best: performing their monologues that are normally only seen at an audition behind closed doors. A monologue slam for actors is the same as a jam session for musicians.
