The true search for love and beauty, Philadelphia Theatre Workshop presents Valhalla by Paul Rudnick directed by Bill Felty

For Immediate Release: November 2, 2006
Media Contact: Carol Murray, Philadelphia Theatre Workshop, 215.248.1304

A reform school boy in Texas is in love with the captain of the football team. The young king of Bavaria is in love with opera. The loneliest humpback princess in Europe is in love with anyone who'll have her. The Queen is in love with herself. And the prettiest girl in Dainsville, Texas wants to marry one guy but be swept off her feet by another.

In operatic proportions, Valhalla a Philadelphia premiere by award winning playwright Paul Rudnick intertwines two stories: the life of Ludwig, the 1880's Mad King of Bavaria; and the fictional adventures of James Avery, a wild Texas teenager of the 1940's.

Directed by Bill Felty, Philadelphia Theatre Workshop Co-Artistic Director, this coming of age tale spans 60 years transforming the sometimes-bizarre often over-the-top milieu of characters, as they confront both the petty and the profound, into believable worlds of their own. This comic epic explores the true search for love and beauty and the price to be paid for wanting, and getting, everything you dream of.

Valhalla Philadelphia Theatre Workshop's first production of its third season stars Daniel Robaire, Dylan Clements, Trice Baldwin, Austin Durant, Nathaniel Robertson, and Miriam White. These six talented actors play 15 characters. With Wayne Romanowski supplying Scenic and Light Design, Philadelphia Theatre Workshop veteran, Melissa Black creatively meeting the challenges of Costume Design spanning 60 years and some skin to boot, the show is sure to dazzle audiences.

Opening November 18 and running to December 3, 2006 at Walnut Street Theatre Studio 5, tickets are $20 at the door and $18 in advance. Visit www.philadelphiatheatreworkshop.org or call 215-635-2137 for reservations and information.
