Robin Eisenberg co-founder and Co-Artistic Director of the up and coming Philadelphia Theatre Workshop is directing Incoming a world premiere by Audubon, New Jersey based playwright Kathy Anderson. Eisenberg was attracted to the play for many reasons. "Incoming is a play about women on the verge of self-discovery, a story featuring lesbian characters that don't die, don't break up, and don't become straight. Incoming not only speaks to my personal mission, but also nicely fits the Philadelphia Theatre workshop mission."

Over the past two years, Eisenberg worked closely with Anderson on Incoming through Philadelphia Theatre workshop's PlayShops® program, a program that helps talented local playwrights prepare their work for presentation to the public. Eisenberg and Co-Artistic Director Bill Felty nurtured Anderson's writing of Incoming from start to finish by first providing concrete guidance and assistance in improving the Incoming script. The next two steps involved a private reading that allowed Anderson to "hear" the play and a public reading directed by Eisenberg provided feedback from a live audience. After more work incorporating changes, and with Eisenberg's continued assistance, Incoming was ready for its debut, a full production.

Incoming is a comic fantasy that explores what it means to be a child, a parent, and a family. Pregnant and not quite ready for motherhood, Sally stalls for time by hanging upside down on an inversion rack. Liz -- baffled by Sally's new penchants for hanging upside down and constructing outrageously large baby toys -- seeks her father's support. Except that he's in the hospital and Liz's ex-lover is somehow trapped under his bed. A couple of orderlies arrive to help, but instead wax philosophical quoting Desiderata. How couples make decisions, become parents, and settle their pasts to move forward are all themes of Incoming.
