The Ritz Theatre Company presents Dames at Sea May 3 through June 2, 2007 For Immediate Release: April 3, 2007
The Ritz Theatre Company presents "Dames at Sea" May 3 through June 2, 2007 at the historic Ritz Theatre, 915 White Horse Pike, Arts District, Haddon Township, NJ. "Dames at Sea" is a musical with book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller and music by Jim Wise. The play bursts with the nostalgia of the large, flashy 1930s Busby Berkeley-style movie musicals. "Dames at Sea" is set in New York City, where a Broadway musical is in rehearsal with leading lady Mona, chorus girl Joan, and stage manager Hennesy. Ruby, determined to be a Broadway star, arrives from Utah and meets Dick, an aspiring songwriting sailor. Ruby joins the chorus and Hennesy informs the cast that the theater is going to be demolished and they must find another place for the show. Dick and Lucky, another sailor and former boyfriend of Joan, persuade their captain to volunteer the use of their ship. Voted best musical by Time, Look, Newsweek and The New York Post, this favorite camp musical has enjoyed two successful New York runs. The New York opening introduced a young Bernadette Peters.
