New York Times Bestselling Author Jennifer Weiner Featured in Writing Aloud's Coming to Terms, Monday, April 30, 2007 For Immediate Release: April 19, 2007
On Monday, April 30, InterAct Theatre Company's eighth season of Writing Aloud continues with Coming to Terms, an evening of four compelling stories of people striving to make sense of life's changes and challenges. This outstanding group of Philadelphia area writers includes national bestselling author Jennifer Weiner. ABOUT COMING TO TERMS Presented on Monday, April 30, at 7:00 p.m., Coming to Terms features four compelling stories of people striving to make sense of life's changes and challenges. Coming to Terms is the fifth program in the 2006-2007 season of InterAct Theatre Company's award-winning series Writing Aloud, featuring works by contemporary writers read aloud by Philadelphia's best actors. Tickets for the performance, held at 7:00 p.m. at The Adrienne at 2030 Sansom Street, are $12.00 for general admission or $6.00 for InterAct subscribers. Seating is limited, so advance reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 215-568-8079. Discount subscriptions and group rates are also available. The April 30th Writing Aloud opens with "The Haircut." Written by Linda Blaskey (of Lincoln, DE) and read by Cheryl Williams. "The Haircut" is the story of girl who cuts off her hair in protest of her preacher father's strict ways, and sets off an unplanned chain of defiant and liberating events in her family. "Dog Whispers," written by Randall Brown (of Wynnewood, PA) and read by Ames Adamson, is the story of a marriage in trouble, catalyzed by the husband's insistence on keeping their loveable, but unpredictable dog. At wit's end, the family hires a dog whisperer to help solve the dog's problems, and to set their own priorities straight. In "Tour of Duty," written by Jennifer Weiner (of Philadelphia, PA) and read by Susan Wilder, a mother takes her son to visit colleges and deals with the anxiety of seeing her only child leave home, as well as the impending departure of her husband from both of their lives. "Make Me Over," written by Amina Gautier (of Philadelphia, PA) and read by Christina May, follows a young woman who has a chance encounter with the first girl she loved, and is given the chance to say everything she has wanted to say in the intervening years. ABOUT JENNIFER WEINER Jennifer Weiner (Author), whose short story "Tour of Duty" will be featured in Writing Aloud, is the author of the New York Times bestselling novels Good In Bed, Goodnight Nobody, Little Earthquakes, and In Her Shoes, which was made into a motion picture starring Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, and Shirley MacLaine, and directed by Academy Award winner Curtis Hanson. Her short story "The Guy Not Taken" was published in Glamour Magazine and is optioned for film by Dreamworks SKG, and is also the title story of her recently published collection of short stories. Her work has also appeared in Seventeen, Redbook, TV Guide, YM and Salon.com. She is a graduate of Princeton University and a former columnist for The Philadelphia Inquirer. ABOUT THE WRITING ALOUD PROGRAM Directed by David Sanders, Writing Aloud was established in 1999 to present diverse voices in contemporary fiction by the region's best writers, read on stage by professional actors. Quickly establishing itself as the region's premiere reading series, Writing Aloud has attracted sold-out audiences, has been featured in special broadcasts on WHYY-FM public radio, and is a recipient of Philadelphia Magazine's 2001 "Best of Philly" award.
