Remembering 9-11 - Act II Playhouse Joins With Wissahickon Fire Company for Special Presentation of THE GUYS September 10 & 11 For Immediate Release: August 14, 2007
Act II Playhouse and the Wissahickon Fire Company wilI be joining forces on Monday, September 10 and Tuesday, September 11, for a special presentation of Anne Nelson's powerful reality based drama "The Guys", a story about the brave New York City firemen. The readings begin at 8 PM at the Playhouse, 56 E. Butler Ave., Ambler with all proceeds going to the Fire Company. A minimum donation of $ 10 per person is suggested and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 7.30 PM... The play is based on the Playwright's own experiences of helping a New York Fire Captain write eulogies for some of his men, lost September 11, 2001. The performance will feature readings by professional actors Sally Mercer as Joan and Charles Roney, himself a longtime volunteer firefighter, as Nick. Together they build a personal relationship as she helps him put together the difficult, heartfelt speeches that he must deliver with honor, humor and poise - all the while navigating his way through his own emotions. The actual eulogies will be read by Wissahickon firefighters Frank Talese, Steve Blodgett, Mike Malley, Keith Leiber, Jay Leadbeater and Anthony Minio. The reading will be directed by John O'Hara, local actor, playwright and director, who has worked at Act II many times. Members of the Ambler Symphony will provide music for the event. For additional information about "The Guys" contact the Playhouse at 215 654-0200.
