The Players Club of Swarthmore Theater presents The Girl with the Silver Eyes For Immediate Release: August 20, 2007
The Players Club of Swarthmore Theater is kicking off its 2007-2008 season with The Girl with the Silver Eyes, a smoky mystery adapted from two short stories by Dashiell Hammett (author of The Maltese Falcon and The Thin Man). It's about a woman who is as dangerous as she is alluring. Fans of 1940's noir films will love this one! The Hard-boiled detective in question is known as the Continental Op (short for operative). In this thriller, the Op is not only solving the mystery, he finds himself the center of it. He gets kidnapped by people who want to kill him...but he doesn't know why. Imagine solving your own murder before it happens! The mystery genre is a favorite of Director E. Scott Jones, who has staged several others at the Players Club of Swarthmore. Says Jones, "I started looking for a play by my favorite mystery writer, Dashiell Hammett." Then he saw Terry Nolan's adaptation at the Arden, and, "It has been on my 'someday to direct' list ever since." Helping to fulfill Jones' wish is his very capable cast (most of whom are making their Players Club debut): Charles McCloskey of Wilmington, DE; Maria T. Eldridge of Swarthmore, Daniel J. Cavanagh of Plymouth Meeting, Bob DeMarco of Willow Grove, Ann Fackenthall of Wallingford, Hans Specht of Rosemont and Edward A. Young of Hatfield. The Girl with the Silver Eyes runs September 13-16, 20-23 and 27-29. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 8pm and Sunday matinées are at 2pm. The Players Club of Swarthmore is located just minutes from the Blue Route and I-95 at 614 Fairview Avenue in Swarthmore.
