New City Stage Company is proud to kick off its 2nd Season with the Philadelphia premiere of Sunshine by William Mastrosimone

For Immediate Release: August 31, 2007
Media Contact: Dayle, New City Stage Company, 215.563.7500

Sunshine is the compelling story of two lost souls who find each other in a most unusual fashion. Sunshine works in a booth in a porno house. Nelson is a paramedic. They are thrown together one rainy and lonely night. Having lost the capacity to care for others, they are both desperately seeking care themselves. When their lives collide, the emotional walls that surround them fall away in an unexpected and powerful way.

Sunshine was first produced at the Circle Repertory Theater in New York City and starred film actress Jennifer Jason Leigh as Sunshine. The New York Times called Sunshine "gutsy, touching and true - a smoothly paced dance of suspicion and attraction." The all-Philadelphia cast includes Chris Fluck, Ginger Dayle, and C.J. Keller, and is directed by veteran actor/director Neill Hartley.

New City Stage Company is dedicated to presenting high quality professional theatre that engages audiences on a variety of levels; not only entertaining them but also encouraging awareness of issues relevant to the community. We draw our season from contemporary and classical works, with a special focus on including Philadelphia premiers from playwrights whose work and stories are not normally found in the region. We commission and create fully mounted productions of plays that come from a variety of sources - classical works, contemporary plays, reader's theatre, literature, film, and works-in-progress.

New City Stage Company proudly participates in the Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre, Philadelphia's premiere professional theatre awards.

Sunshine previews on Thursday, September 20, 2007 and opens on Friday September 21, 2007. Sunshine then plays through Sunday, October 7, 2007. Tickets may be purchased by going to www.newcitystage.org or by calling 215 573-7500.
