Good Grief! DOG SEES GOD premieres in Philadelphia at Plays & Players Theatre

For Immediate Release: September 26, 2007
Media Contact: Ray Smith, Plays & Players Theatre, 610.622.3254

To celebrate the opening of its 96th season, Plays & Players, 1714 Delancey St., presents the Philadelphia premiere of Bert V. Royal's outrageous comedic spoof, "DOG SEES GOD: Confessions Of A Teenage Blockhead ."

This new and slightly twisted look at America's favorite little "blockhead", CB, and his friends, presents familiar characters in a new context, as contemporary teens with more than their fair share of modern-day problems. Drug use, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion and sexual identity all collide in a comedy which is funny, touching, shocking, thought-provoking, and rated "R" for explicit sexual references and profanity. The N.Y. Times hailed it as "A welcome antidote to the notion that the "Peanuts" crowd provides merely a slice of American cuteness."

Producer/Director Bill Egan will be working with a talented cast of Philadelphia area actors, including: Ken Sandberg as "CB" and Josh Hitchens, Scott Franco, Dan DeRosier, Molly Casey, Rebecca O'Connell, Amber Wiley and Shoshanna Hill.

Performances are: Sept. 27 thru Oct. 13, Wed.-Sat. at 8pm; Sundays 9/30 & 10/7 at 7pm.

Tickets for DOG SEES GOD are $20 purchased online at www.playsandplayers.org or $25 at the door. Plays & Players Box Office is open 30 minutes prior to show time. Reservations can be made by calling (215) 735-0630, but will be subject to door prices. Groups of 15 or more can receive a 10% discount on ticket prices.

A special Preview Performance has also been added on September 26th at $15 per ticket.

Proceeds from the October 4th performance will benefit the AIDS Fund of Philadelphia.

NOTE: DOG SEES GOD has not been authorized or approved, in any manner, by the Charles M. Schultz Estate or United Features Syndicate.

Plays & Players, the only nonprofit community theatre serving center city Philadelphia, is one of the oldest continuously operating community theatres in America. For the past 25 years Plays & Players has been the home of the Philadelphia Theatre Company. Now that they have ended their residency, Plays & Players is most anxious to let the community know that, in addition to our own schedule of main stage plays, including Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Aspects of Love" in February 2008 and an evening of contemporary one acts in June 2008, and children's theatre, we will be playing host to a range of theatrical events. These will include presentations by the Fringe Festival, Theatre 1812, several musical and dance groups, and an original comedy musical "A Jew Grows in Brooklyn ," presented by the team responsible for the long-running "Menopause: The Musical" at Society Hill Playhouse.

Plays & Players proudly participates in the Barrymore Award for Excellence in Theatre, a program of the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia.
