Media Theatre Goes Technicolor With "Joseph" Musical

For Immediate Release: November 8, 2007
Media Contact: Roger Ricker, Media Theatre, 610.891.0100

Andrew Lloyd Webber is known around the world for his popular memorable musicals. The one that started it all is coming to The Media Theatre November 20-December 30, and tickets are on sale now.

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" is Webber's take on the story of Joseph and his brothers, as well as his coat of many colors, from the Old Testament. He was commissioned to write the piece, along with his lyricist Tim Rice, for Colet Court (a boys prep school in London) in 1968. The musical became a tapestry of various styles, including country and western as well as calypso, with an upbeat tone. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a devoted fan of Elvis Presley and based the character of the Pharoah on the legendary singer.

"Joseph" actually started out as a short cantata and was later expanded to a more substantial length. Originally conceived as an all-male cast, the show eventually transformed into the Broadway musical known around the world today.

The Media Theatre production has a cast of professional performers from New York City and the Philadelphia region. The live orchestra will be conducted by Media's resident music director Christopher Ertelt.

The cast of "Joseph" at The Media Theatre includes four members of the recent "Miss Saigon" production: Conrad Ricamora, Roger Ricker, Billy Sarna, and Brett Stoelker as Joseph. Philadelphia area actress Sarah Gliko sings the role of the Narrator.

For tickets to the vibrant, heavily choreographed production, call The Media Theatre at 610-891-0100 or visit www.mediatheatre.org. If you have never attended Media Theatre before, and your first name is Joseph (or Joe) you will receive a complimentary ticket during the first week of the show's run (Thanksgiving Week) with purchase of another ticket. "Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" dances on Media Theatre's stage Nov. 20-Dec. 30.
