Media Contact: Rebecca Wright, InterAct Theatre Company, 215.568.8077

On Monday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m., InterAct Theatre Company's ninth season of Writing Aloud continues with Waiting Around, Moving On, an evening of five provocative stories depicting a spectrum of different lives, from people who are totally stuck to those who are hurdling forward into unknown futures.

ABOUT Waiting Around, Moving On
Presented on Monday, December 10, Waiting Around, Moving On features five diverse stories about people dealing with the strange and sometimes troubling circumstances of their lives, and either getting bogged down in them or defying them completely and pushing forward. Waiting Around, Moving On is the second program in the 2007-2008 season of InterAct Theatre Company's award-winning series Writing Aloud, featuring works by contemporary writers read aloud by Philadelphia's best actors. Tickets for the performance, held at 7:00 p.m. on the mainstage at The Adrienne, 2030 Sansom Street, are $15.00 for general admission or $10.00 for InterAct subscribers. Seating is limited, so advance reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 215-568-8079. Discount subscriptions and group rates are also available. A reception with refreshments will follow the performance.

The December 10 Writing Aloud opens with "Before the Move," written by Thaddeus Rutkowski (of New York City) and read by Jeb Kraeger. "Before the Move" is the story of a break-up, complete with accusations, boxes of ex-girlfriends' stuff, and pornographic videos.

"Mirrors," written by John Thompson (of Media, PA) and read by Ellen Tobie brings us to a bar on New Year's Eve where Patty waits for her son with his wife, Darlene, the bartender. Both Darlene and her mother-in-law have secrets and veiled desires that get harder and harder to hide as they near the first moments of the new year.

"Blue Eyes," written by Jennifer Williamson (of Philadelphia) and read by Barrymore award-winning actress Charlotte Northeast (best supporting actress for Skin in Flames at InterAct Theatre Company) introduces us to Lynda, who leaves her abusive boyfriend after he proposes to her, but then finds herself in a shelter for battered women nursing her bruises and wrestling with how to go forward or whether to go back.

"A Russian Wind," written by Harry Humes (of Lenharstsville, PA) and also read by Jeb Kraeger is a haunting and evocative tale, almost like a fairy story, of a young boy in a coal town waiting out a storm with his mother and small brother, hoping for his father's return and mystified by the magic of his strong mother and the force of the wind and rain.

Our final story of the evening is "Red Stain Yellow Dress," written by Julia MacDonnell (of Berlin, NJ) and read by Mary McCool. "Red Stain Yellow Dress" follows a girl who calls herself Serena down to Washington DC to get an illegal abortion in 1968. As Serena travels on the greyhound, sits in the waiting room, and finally boards the bus back home again, she reminisces about her past and tries to envision her future.
