Busy Summer Ahead For Hedgerow Theatre For Immediate Release: May 3, 2008
Hedgerow Theatre is preparing for another busy season, May 31-Aug. 31, with concerts, a family show, a new play festival and its seventh annual summer farce. The summer season kicks off May 22 with the delightful family show, A Little Princess - the musical, based on a classic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The show will feature theatre fellow Sarah Gafgen as Miss Minchin and many members of Hedgerow's youth ensemble. On May 31, the theatre welcomes The Valley Forge Chorus for two performances Saturday, May 31 at 4 and 8 p.m. Under the direction of Joe Spiecker, The Chorus is preparing an a capella songfest about relationships - their joys and trials -along with an inspirational and patriotic salute to America. The theatre will also be hosting a New Play Festival May 31-June 28 at Hedgerow Theatre and Hedgerow Studio (146 W. Rose Valley Road). Details are still forming and the play titles will be soon be posted on the theatre's website. Next, Demetria Joyce Bailey, whose performance in Ethel Waters: His Eye is on the Sparrow wowed audiences and critics alike, returns to Hedgerow for An Intimate Evening of Song with her 10 piece band, the Joe Dawson Jazz ensemble for a concert series June 12-22. June closes with four performances by guest artists Donna Dougherty and Robert Welch of Broadway Bound performing a concert entitled Broadway and Beyond, showcasing popular favorites by George M. Cohen, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice. July 10 through Aug. 31, the theater will stage its seventh annual Ray Cooney farce, There Goes the Bride. For the seventh summer Zoran Kovcic and Susan Wefel will be making audience laugh until it hurts in this tale of a harassed advertising executive who hits his head on the morning of his daughter's society wedding and imagines himself in love with a 1920's flapper girl only he can see. Young children will be invited to join the fun in costume Saturdays May 31-July 26 with Cinderella's Princess Birthday Party, an hour long tale about the children born to Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
