The Centre Theater Presents Footloose June 5 - June 29, 2008

For Immediate Release: May 18, 2008
Media Contact: Fran Doyle, Montgomery County Cutlural Center, 610.279.1013

Opening at the Centre Theater at the Montgomery County Cultural Center on June 6 is one of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory that bursts onto the live stage, FOOTLOOSE. To the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) to which new, dynamic songs have been added FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind. The heartfelt story emerges with a father longing for the son he lost and a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

The cast includes professional actors and several local interns from our area. Playing the part of Ren McCormack is Joey Contreras who is a student at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. It is Joey's first production with The Centre Theater. Playing opposite him as Ariel Moore is Sara Sultanick who is a student from Muhlenberg College. The local student interns are Steven Copp, Stephanie Doyle and Amanda Vandenburg. The director of the production is Leigh Ann Brienza who performs as well as directs. She directs in many venues in the area including schools. The choreography is being done by Joseph Cicala and musical direction by Wesley Stohler.

The story tells of some family complications that are hard for the teens and parents to deal with and how they overcome the obstacles in their lives. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing. The ban is the brainchild of the preacher determined to exercise the control over the town youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boy friend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid.

The show is a celebration of youthful independence, genuine artistry and innovation, It is a crackling show that will make you want to get up and dance. The score is the best kind of blast from the past.
