Media Contact: Bobbi Block, Walking Fish Theatre, 215.805.4303

Tongue & Groove is hitting the stage again after a very successful first year. Performing at the Walking Fish Theatre, 2509 Frankford Avenue, Phila, PA 19125 on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 8:00pm. Tickets for June 28 are $10 and can be purchased at the door or through the Walking Fish website at www.walkingfishtheatre.com.

Tongue & Groove is an ensemble of nine actors specially trained in the art of longform improv under the direction of Philadelphia improv veteran Bobbi Block. The company's mission is to create theatre that has the dramatic integrity of well-crafted scene-writing and the playful tension of improv. The talented ensemble explores a wide range of rich emotional, intellectual, and physical relationships, creating both laugh-out-loud humor and heart-touching moments of truth as they improvise the human experience. Expect romance, comedy, drama, playfulness.and lots of kissin' and wrestlin'.

Unlike in short game-based improv, performers of longform weave a tapestry of non-linear scenes and monologues for 30 - 60 minutes straight without stopping. Over the past few years, a healthy longform scene has grown in the city, as demonstrated by the recent attraction of national longform improv companies to the Philly Improv Festival. Tongue & Groove stands out from the other Philly companies with its unique format and actor-based foundation.

Artistic Director Bobbi Block, whom audiences know from Fringe-favorite improv group LunchLady Doris, states, "I was excited by the idea of developing serio-comic work in the genre of contemporary realism with a company of highly-trained actor/improvisers, and Tongue & Groove was born."

The name Tongue & Groove refers to a method of connecting building materials for strength and seamlessness. Tongue & Groove has been training since September 2006; the ensemble's level of connection and trust makes them exceptionally strong risk-takers; they're completely comfortable with each other physically and their love of playing together is clear in every seamlessly built, spontaneously-generated performance.

Philadelphia City Paper says, "You can tell...when an improv group really fits together, and Tongue & Groove (like their name says) has all the good signs. The skilled performers effortlessly riff on all aspects of modern relationships, both comedic and dramatic." The diverse cast ranges in age from 23 - 53, with a wide array of theatre, tv, improv and film credits, and includes a harmonica-player who spontaneously scores the show with bluesy emphasis, providing yet another meaning for the company's groove.

T&G is: Fred Andersen, Bobbi Block, Beth Dougherty, Adam Gertler, Jenn MacMillian, Eoin O'Shea, Josh Rubinstein, Jordan Stalsworth, Carrie Spaulding.
