B. Someday Productions presents Entertaining Mr. Sloane For Immediate Release: July 21, 2008
Kath is doing her washing one day and there’s a knock at the door. There’s a Mr. Sloane come seeking to rent the spare room. But what does he really want? He looks so young and innocent, but is he? "Entertaining Mr. Sloane," the deceptively-simple play by Joe Orton was a scandalous smash hit in London and Broadway 40 years ago. Now you can watch the quirky B. Someday Productions’ own "Entertaining Mr. Sloane" opening Tuesday, September 7, 7pm at the Walking Fish Theatre, 2509 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19125. Additional performances will take place Friday September 5, 8pm, Saturday September 6, 3pm, Monday September 8, 7pm, Wednesday September 10, 8pm, Thursday September 11, 8pm, Saturday, September 13, 9pm, as part of the 2008 Philly Fringe Festival offerings at the Walking Fish Theatre. The run will continue Wednesday through Saturday September 17-20, all at 8pm, and will close September 21 with a 2pm matinee. Joe Orton was a controversial and enigmatic figure on the literary scene from the time of "Entertaining Mr. Sloane" through his brutal murder in 1967 by his mentor and lover Ken Halliwell. Mr. Sloane is a similarly enigmatic and seductive figure. Kath, still reeling from the trauma of her lost child two decades earlier, sees in Sloane the child she never knew as well as the lover she barely knew. Sloane allows himself to be seduced by Kath and her brother Ed, who makes Sloane his leather-clad chauffeur. The only member of the household he can’t seduce is Kemp, Kath and Ed’s old "Dada," who recognizes Sloane as the fugitive from justice he really is. In the end, the tables get turned on Mr. Sloane, and Kath and Ed hold the power over Sloane’s fate, but will the depth of their need control them?
