Exclamation Theater, Inc. presents a world premiere of a one-hour, one-woman play by up-and-coming playwright, Ellen Hendrix For Immediate Release: July 28, 2008
Exclamation Theater, Inc., Philadelphia's non-profit for education through literature-in-performance, will present a world premiere of a one-hour, one-woman play by up-and-coming playwright, Ellen Hendrix, "CALLIE, KATHERINE, MIRANDA, AND OTHERS: 'WITH TAMBOURINES AND DANCING': KATHERINE ANNE PORTER REMINISCES ABOUT HER LIFE AND WORK," through the auspices of the Philly Fringe and Live Arts Festival on September 4-7. In an extended monologue, the world famous short-story writer from the dead for a last glimpse of her childhood home in Kyle, Texas, ruminating on her enigmatic life and lyrical art. It is Exclamation Theater's sixtieth (60th) production in eleven years. * The play is recommended by the Board of Directors for SAT, ACT, and GRE preparation, and for anyone in love with literature and the people who create it! * It is best enjoyed by audience members aged twelve and older. "Callie, Katherine, Miranda, and Others" is directed by Exclamation's Executive Producer, Dr. Patricia Robinson-Linder of Wallingford, PA, who is a co-founder of the Company. A professional director, she has retired from university teaching, was recruited by School District of Philadelphia, and has begun a second career teaching in the magnet high schools. The role of Katherine Anne Porter is performed by Dr. Carol Raviola of Philadelphia, PA a Company member and seasoned actress, who has retired as a vascular surgeon from Pennsylvania Hospital. The playwright, Dr. Ellen Hendrix of Baltimore, MD, has written an earlier play for Exclamation Theater, Upquark and Entropy, now in revision, and is employed as an editor in a major publishing house. All three women were born within fourteen months of one another.
