Theatre Horizon announces full season of shows performed in Norristown's Centre Theatre For Immediate Release: October 8, 2008
Theatre Horizon is proud to announce its full season of plays and musicals in its new temporary home at the Centre Theatre at 208 DeKalb Street, Norristown, PA. Theatre Horizon's move to the Centre Theatre marks the first time that we will perform all of our season's shows in the same venue. Consequently, Theatre Horizon will launch its first subscription series. We begin the 08-09 season with a limited-run holiday concert, American Songbook for the Holidays December 28 - 31, with a special New Year's Eve performance on December 31st. The concert will feature Theatre Horizon favorites Erin Reilly and Rachel Camp, plus a dapper cast celebrating the music of George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, and Jerome Kern, classic American composers who penned songs like Somewhere Over the Rainbow and The Way You Look Tonight. Theatre Horizon is just warming up, following their winter holiday cabaret with The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged) running January 23rd to February 15th. This three-man comedy condenses all of Shakespeare's 37 plays into one hilarious, record-breaking marathon of Elizabethan virtuosity, where Titus Andronicus gets his own cooking show, King John becomes a football star, and Hamlet dies, dies, and dies again. With three energetic actors playing every role, it's the fastest, funniest joyride through the complete works of Bill Shakespeare ever seen onstage! Directed by Artistic Director Erin Reilly, the production stars Dave Johnson (co-creator of the Fringe comedy hit The Giant Squid) and Andrew Kane (featured in Arden's Go Dog, Go!). Closing the season is the imaginative and wacky musical Honk, a twisted take on Hans Christian Anderson's story of The Ugly Duckling running June 5th to June 28th. This extravagant and colorful Olivier-award-winning musical follows the trials and travails of one determined duck and his unstoppable mom, who prove that love can win out over prejudice. A co-production with the Centre Theatre, this gripping tale features villains, heroes, and a timeless lesson of understanding and acceptance. Artistic Director Matt Decker, whose lauded productions of Once on This Island and Working were favorites of Theatre Horizon's growing audience base, will direct Honk. Of Decker's 2007 musical, City Paper said "What makes Once on this Island soar is its storytelling framework.through multiple layers, what might be merely delightful song-and-dance becomes a musical history lesson with a profound moral." In addition to its mainstage productions, Theatre Horizon launches another promising year of arts education with classes for kids and teens planned throughout 2008-09. Theatre Horizon will once again helm the Ithan Elementary Drama Club. The company has also launched public workshops as part of its innovative Autism Outreach Program. Through the workshops, teaching artists instruct children with autism in drama skills help the student's build interactive time span, flexible thinking skills, and social skills.
