Media Theatre's My Fair Lady Extended Through November 9 For Immediate Release: October 22, 2008
"My Fair Lady" at The Media Theatre is being extended due to popular demand. The current production, directed by Artistic Director Jesse Cline, will have 6 performances added through Sunday, November 9. The production, which has played to critical acclaim from The Philadelphia Inquirer, Delaware County Daily Times, and News of Delaware County, is the first at The Media Theatre to utilize a new, state-of-the-art digital sound system. This is the second time that "My Fair Lady" has created history on State Street in Media. In 1994, it was the first musical produced which ushered in the era of Broadway musicals at a renovated Media Theatre. Now, with the 2008 production, it is the first musical to be extended beyond a previously scheduled closing date. Artistic Director Jesse Cline explains what he feels is a big part of the show's popularity: "All of the reviews have mentioned the fact that Ian Kahn, who portrays Professor Henry Higgins, is a much younger Higgins than in most productions of this classic musical. What that does is create a love story that is much more believable, between him and the young Eliza Doolittle. Ian also has found new levels within the structure of the script as an actor that audiences find intriguing." Cline continues, "Elisa Matthews has also been creating quite a stir with her lovely voice. Music theatre lovers appreciate hearing "I Could Have Danced All Night" and "Wouldn't It Be Loverly?" with a clear legit soprano that seems to be lighter than air. Our new sound system only illuminates her vocals." During the extension week, which is Nov. 5-9, performances will be Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2 and 8, and Sunday at 3pm. High school and University students may see "My Fair Lady" on Wednesday night Nov. 5 for $10.
