Scrooge will be singing for the holidays when The Media Theatre presents the musical "Ebenezer" Saturday mornings in December at 11am. The show is part of the theatre's children's series and is for all ages.

"Ebenezer" is the story of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol as performed by a cast of 35 children and teens set to various music styles such as 1950's rock and roll during the Fezziwig party, pop music for the opening number "Roll On Christmas", and a Conga during the charity collectors scene. Even the Ghost of Christmas Present gets into the young spirit of things by doing a rap number with a 'posse' of tiny rappers to assist him. Daniel Stanton, one of three adults in the show, has appeared in 7 musicals at The Media Theatre, and plays the ghost 'rapper'.

Two other adults appear in the show: Pete Bendistis of Media will put in a cameo appearance as Old Joe, and Delco Idol contestant Steven Calakos will portray the lead role of Ebenezer Scrooge.

Steven Calakos, who won third place in this past summer's Delco Idol competition, will showcase his pop-style singing voice as "Ebenezer". He was recently seen in "My Fair Lady" at The Media Theatre, and was a Top 12 finalist in the NBC talent search for the leads of Broadway's current revival of "Grease". He explains a bit about the show's concept: "This production of "Ebenezer" is fast-paced, energetic, and fun. The idea behind it is that young people are portraying all of the roles of Dickens' classic holiday story. Even I, as Ebenezer Scrooge, am much younger than actors usually are who step into this role. But that is the concept. It's a musical re-telling with modern styles, yet the story reaches beyond any age group. It certainly won't be the Scrooge you are used to, but it will be a Scrooge you will want to see more of."

The Media Theatre is offering a Dickens- of -A -Discount during the holiday season. With the special offer, anyone who purchases full price tickets to the Broadway Series production of "Oliver!" (which is based on another Charles Dickens' classic) can purchase $6 tickets to "Ebenezer".
