AMARYLLIS THEATRE COMPANY CONTINUES SEASON WITH PHILADELPHIA PREMIERE OF DYING CITY BY PULITZER PRIZE FINALIST CHRISTOPHER SHINN FEBRUARY 10-22 For Immediate Release: January 20, 2009
Amaryllis Theatre Company continues its season with the Philadelphia premiere of Dying City by Pulitzer Prize finalist Christopher Shinn on February 10-22 at Amaryllis Theatre Company's home in The Playground at the Adrienne (2030 Sansom Street). Directed by Stephen Smith, the play features Pamela Sabaugh and Nathan Emmons. With a preview on Tuesday, February 10, the production opens on Wednesday, February 11. Performances are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings at 7:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $20 each, $15 for seniors and $12 for students, and are available by calling 215-564-2431 x. 93, (TTY: 267-322-7997) or by visiting the website at tickets@amaryllistheatre.org. Set against the backdrop of a controversial war and tumultuous city, this dark look at memory and perspective, introduces us to Peter, who just walked out in the middle of his current stage production, and Kelly, who is in the middle of walking out on her life, both of whom have a deep personal connection to a dead American soldier. Grappling with questions of who's lying and who's telling the truth, Dying City looks at how the political and the personal intertwine, sometimes with tragic consequences. Stephen Patrick Smith (Director) has been seen at Amaryllis in Molly Sweeney and A Terrible Beauty: Blood Guilty and The Good Thief and also appeared in The Chairs at Villanova and Henry V at Delaware Theatre Company last season. In 2005, Smith directed Jewel Walker's Tuesday for Amaryllis Theatre Company, which won 2005 Barrymore Awards for Best Choreography and Best Ensemble. With an MFA in Acting from University of Delaware and a MA in Theatre from Villanova University, he currently teaches drama full-time at Delaware County Community College. Nathan Emmons (Craig/Peter) has most recently been seen as the drunken Russian in The Hostage for the Resident Ensemble Players at the University of Delaware, Archie in Greenlight Theatre's The Widow's Blind Date, and Baron Von Spiegel for Anonymous Theatre's Won At Last. He received his MFA from the University of Delaware's Professional Theatre Training Program. Pamela Sabaugh (Kelly) last starred at Amaryllis in Molly Sweeney. She recently finished shooting the feature film One Angry Man with Jackie Mason and is due to appear on the ABC Prime Time special What Would You Do? Having appeared Off-Broadway in the NY premiere of John Belluso's The Rules Of Charity and at the 2007 New York International Fringe Festival in Another Day On Willow St, her other New York credits include frequent appearances at Theater By The Blind, Shotgun Productions, Lookingglass Theatre, Theater Rising, and The Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey as well as recurring roles in "One Live To Live" and "Guiding Light". Sabaugh received the Princess Grace Award for emerging artists and the award for Excellence in Performance from the 2000 New York International Fringe Festival, where she appeared in the premier of her own play, Woman in the Animal Kingdom-a play about a vision impaired sculptor finding and feeling her way through New York City. Amaryllis Theatre Company is the theatrical producing arm of VSA arts of Pennsylvania, an affiliate through VSA arts of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
