"Home at last in Exile: Theatre Exile moves into a new space - Join the Celebration!

For Immediate Release: January 30, 2009
Media Contact: Jenny Jacobs, Theatre Exile, 215.218.4022

After 12 seasons. Theatre Exile has found a home in South Philly. On Dec 30th, 1340 S. 13th Street became the site of the administrative offices and rehearsal space for Theatre Exile.

Since 1996, Theatre Exile has grown leaps and bounds, artistically. High praise from critics for daring and cutting-edge productions, as well as accolades from within the artistic community encouraged Theatre Exile's progress. The 2007-2008 season, alone, garnered eleven Barrymore nominations, that's more nominations in one season than in Exile's entire history. By the start of the 2008-2009 season, Exile's artistic accomplishments had far outgrown the 500 square foot administrative offices on South and 4th. It was time for Theatre Exile to move. By the end of December, thanks to the hard work of many friends and volunteers, relocation to a building five times bigger than the old office was complete. Theatre Exile finally has an environment for administrative growth that will be able to match the level of its artistic achievements.

Theatre Exile's new home is capable of supporting more than the daily administrative operations; part of the glorious 2500 square foot domain is being refurbished to be a permanent rehearsal studio for Theatre Exile and, with a little more work, a public space that will be capable of hosting workshops and readings. Armed with this exciting, new asset, Exile will be able to deepen the long standing commitment with Philadelphia artists like Bruce Graham and Michael Hollinger and deepen new relationships with other local playwrights. Exile is also developing a reading series featuring regional and world premieres of plays through staged readings and workshops. In a time when room for rehearsal and new work development is shrinking, Theatre Exile is proud to increase its borders and to create opportunities for new work to emerge.

To celebrate this incredible milestone, Theatre Exile will be throwing a house warming party to beat the band! Friday, February 27th is the night for a casual, fun filled evening of pizza, beer, music, dancing, and the best friends and family a theatre company could ask for. If you want to warm the house and raise the roof, RSVP to Jenny Jacobs, External Relations Director, (215) 218-4022 or jenny@theatreexile.org by February 20th.
