STORYBOOK MUSICAL THEATRE PRESENTS THE BELOVED TALE OF "LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD" FOR FAMILY AUDIENCES

For Immediate Release: February 11, 2009
Media Contact: Marc S. Goldberg, Storybook Musical Theatre, 215.659.8550

Learning to traverse the tricky events in life is the theme of Storybook Musical Theatre's "Little Red Riding Hood." It teaches children that life isn't much different than a walk in the woods; it's fun, there's always something new to learn, and when you get off the beaten path, it's good to trust people you know for advise.

The Abington-based Storybook Musical Theatre will present the beloved story of "Little Red Riding Hood" at the Mitchell Performing Arts Center, 800 Tomlinson Rd in Bryn Athyn, PA. from March 3 to March 15. Tickets are $10.00 for children and $12.00 for adults, with group discounts available. For reservations or more information call: 215-659-855 or www.storybookmusical.org .

Adapted by Storybook's Artistic Director Patricia Goldberg, the classic Grimm Brothers' tale, modernized slightly with a 1950's greaser wolf, and blend it with a lively musical by Kevin Arruda, creates an entertaining piece for the whole family to enjoy.

The tale begins when Little Red, a strong-headed young lady, must take the dangerous journey through the woods to deliver some goodies to her ailing grandmother. Along the way, she quickly learns that her mother was right about talking to strangers - especially wolve's in granny's clothing.

Storybook's has gathered five talented, local, professional actors for its cast:

Catherine Logan, of Holland, PA., is the delightful, albeit headstrong, Little Red, who makes the trip to granny's. Logan, a Storybook newcomer, was recently featured in "42nd Street" at the Ritz Theater. Other local credits: "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at New Candlelight Dinner Theater, "The Jungle Book," "Twelfth Night," and "Cyrano de Bergerac" at Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. She is a recent graduate of the acting program at De Sales University.

Storybook veteran, Jeff Reim, of Sewell, New Jersey, plays the poor, lonely wolf, with an appetite for young girls in red capes. Reim was seen earlier this season as the King in "Sleeping Beauty." Other Storybook on stage credits include "Wizard of Oz," "Rumpelstiltskin," "Pinocchio," "Aladdin" and "Hansel and Gretel." Besides acting, he is also a director and composer. Reim has composed many Storybook shows including "Puss 'n Boot," "Alice in Wonderland," "Snow White," and "Frog Prince."

Jason Michael, of Upper Darby, PA. will play the crucial role of Fritz the Woodsman. Michael was seen on our stage last season as the Lion in "Wizard of Oz," and the King in "Puss 'n Boots." Area credits include ol' Cap'n in "Purlie" and The Captain in "Dames at Sea," both at the Ritz Theater, Barnaby and Jack in American Family Theater's "Babes in Toyland," as well asMan #2 in AFT's National Liberty Museum production of "We The People." In addition, Jason is the Children's Theater Artistic Director for Upper Darby Summer Stage.

Keeping up the tradition that mother always knows best is Joyce Moody, of Newtown, Bucks County. Moody has been seen on the Storybook stage as the Queen of Hearts in "Alice in Wonderland." She was seen in the National Tour of "Damn Yankees," starring Dick Van Dyke, as Gloria Thorpe. Other stock/regional credits: "Sound of Music," "My Fair Lady," "La Cage aux Folles" at the Walnut St. Theater, "She Loves Me" at the Bristol Riverside Theater, "Annie" and "Gypsy" at the Beef and Boards Dinner Theater.

Finally, the motivation for Little Red to leave the house, Linda Pierson-Huff, of Southampton, PA., plays the allergic Granny Fanny. Pierson-Huff was just seen in Storybook's production of "Sleeping Beauty" as the Queen. Other Storybook roles included "Cinderella" and "Puss 'n Boot." Linda was in the National Tour of "Les Miserables" as Factory Girl/Fantine US and was a Barrymore nominee for her roles in "Violet" at the Arden Theater and Lucy Brown in "Three Penny Opera" at the Wilma Theater.

The Director of "Little Red Riding Hood" is Patricia Goldberg, Musical Director will be Nancy Wiker, with costumes by Kim Hanley sets by Pat Goldberg and lighting by Marc S. Goldberg.

Show times for "Little Red Riding Hood" are weekdays at 10:15 am, Saturdays at 11:00 am and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Reservations are recommended. Children's tickets are $10.00, Adults are $12.00 with generous school and group discounts available.
