Who: Walnut Street Theatre and the Philadelphia Inquirer What: As part of its continuing partnership through Newspapers in Education, The Philadelphia Inquirer has chosen a winner for its 2009 Bully Essay Contest. This year's winning school will receive a free performance of The Walnut Street Theatre's Touring Outreach production of The Boy Who Cried Bully. The winning essay will be published in the Philadelphia Inquirer in the near future. When: Thursday, February 19, 2009 9:00AM Where: William Loesche Elementary School 595 Tomlinson Road Philadelphia, PA 19116 Why: The Walnut Street Theatre has joined forces with PECO and the Philadelphia Inquirer in support of a very special Touring Outreach Production, The Boy Who Cried Bully. Many states have required public schools to implement anti-bullying policies, and schools are seeking innovative, affordable means of addressing this challenge. Therefore, the Walnut Street Theatre took the unprecedented approach of commissioning plays concentrated on the issue of bullying. The Boy Who Cried Bully was created with the guidance of school administrators, who agree that the right tone is set for an honest discussion among students and teachers. The Walnut, Philadelphia Inquirer and PECO believe the plays will be valuable additions to schools' anti-bullying efforts. Walnut Street Theatre, The Inquirer and PECO look forward to bringing arts education into our area schools while helping students and teachers effectively combat school violence.
