STORYTELLING WORKSHOP OPEN TO EVERYONE FREE For Immediate Release: May 13, 2009
B. Someday Productions of Kensington/Fishtown, in partnership with NeighborhoodsNow and the American Street Empowerment Zone/NTI and Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School presents a FREE community workshop on storytelling at the Crane Arts Building, 1400 N American Street, on Thursday, May 28 from 4:00-6:00pm. The workshop will consist of fun and easy improvisation games suited for the storyteller in all of us. Michelle Pauls and Susan Cantone, teaching artists, will lead the workshop where we all will share some stories from their own lives, talk about living in this community and any issues that come up, then learn some fun and easy improvisation games. Snacks will also be provided. The cost is free. This workshop is the culminating part of a project that B. Someday was involved in during the 2007-08 school year with a class of Kathleen Gaynor’s at Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School. "We are trying to create a more intergenerational aspect to this project" says director Michelle Pauls, "by inviting the parents of the students, seniors from the Lutheran Settlement House and fourth-grade students from Hunter and McKinley Elementary Schools, along with our mailing list. I hope we can reach out more to the community as well." Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School, at 2501 Kensington in Philadelphia, is the high school for many students in the American Street Empowerment Zone. This area of the city is often fraught with violence, especially among its youth. B. Someday Productions along with the United Way, hopes to give the youth of the community an opportunity to express themselves in a creative endeavor and share with the community alternatives to violence. "Of Mythic Proportions" A public storytelling workshop Thursday, May 28, 2009 4:00-6:00pm Crane Arts Building, 1400 N American Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122 The cost is FREE.
