“FULL HOUSE,” A SERIES OF ONE-NIGHT CABARETS, PLAYS AT THE RED ROOM JUNE 25-28 For Immediate Release: May 31, 2009
Quince Productions presents “Full House,” a series of cabaret performances which plays Thursday through Sunday, June 25-28, in
the Red Room at Society Hill Playhouse (home of BCKSEET Productions, 507 S. 8th Street). With six different performances over the four-day period, “Full House” is a showcase of some of Philadelphia’s top performers, with a few special guests coming into the city for the festival. “Full House” starts with a gala opening Thursday, June 25, at 7:30 pm, featuring Karen Gross’ acclaimed one-woman show, “Sex and the Single Singer” and a special reception following the show. Performed and created by Philadelphia cabaret artist Karen Gross, “Sex & the Single Singer” is a sassy, sexy musical journey about the search for love. Expect lots of great songs, big laughs and a fabulously fun night out from the artist who has sold out venues throughout the region. Said Bob Egan, founder/producer of the legendary cabaret at Odette’s, “With Julia Roberts’ looks, and a voice to match, Karen Gross is one of the most refreshing performers I had the pleasure of watching grow and become more and more dynamic over the years.” The show will be followed by a reception catered by some of Philadelphia’s best--a veritable “Full House” of fine dining, including Whole Foods, Tria, Valanni, Xochitl, and Amada. The series continues with five more performances over the following three nights: a “Full House” of talent: Friday, June 26, 7:30 pm - Nathan Ohm in "Travels and Home: Songs for the Journey." In his inspirational and humorous style, Nathan shares songs from Broadway and jazz that highlight life's journeys. Join Nathan, who comes in from NYC, in his first Philadelphia homecoming performance. Friday, June 26, 9:30 pm - A double header. First, Maggie Laird, Vashon Island’s “quintessential jazz diva” (Island View), wings in from the Northwest to present "From Berlin to Broadway, and a Few Random Stops." Accompanying herself on the piano, Laird sings favorite standards, award-winning originals, and a diverse mix of covers designed to take you to a Parisian bistro, the streets of Amsterdam, or your local smoky bar. Says the Vashon Loop, "One can actually feel the smokiness in the room, catch a whiff of the drinks at the bar, and feel the torch that Laird carries." She’s followed by G DeCandia in "Stage to Screen...and Back Again." If big-budget blockbuster movie-musicals incited your interest in the genre, come rock out to the tunes all over again in a unique celebration of bringing stage to screen...back to stage! Join BCKSEET Productions' DeCandia, touted by the Philadelphia Inquirer as a performer with “courage, energy, and enormous physical grace,” and guitar! ist Joe Horak for an evening that will prove that stage is bigger than screen! Saturday, June 27, 7:30 pm - Melissa Kolczynski presents "Pants on Fire: Songs About Liars, Lust, and Flaming Pants." Melissa and friends sing songs from the 1920's to today, about betrayal, deception, passion and fire. "She's tone perfect," says the Philadelphia Inquirer, which also comments that she "sings with feeling, spirit, style, and humor." Saturday, June 27 9:30 pm - "The Best is Yet to Come," featuring members of the Cabaret Performance Class. Born out of Jeff Lesser and Jeff McDonnell’s Cabaret Performance Class, these rising performers on the Philadelphia cabaret scene will thoroughly entertain you with a variety of material evoking laughter and tears. Catch them now while you can still afford them! Sunday, June 28, 6 pm - A finale doesn't get much grander than this dynamite doubleheader: starting with Peter Andrew Danzig (who got rave reviews in Quince's last production) in "Welcome to the Red Room," a collection of pop/folk music that touches the heart, reminds us of young love, and encourages us to accept one another. He's followed by Aimée Robidoux in "Vision of Love." Accompanied by Ryan Fleming, Aimée uses popular songs and standards to share an entertaining tale of one girl’s experience with love from beginning to end. Quince Productions burst onto the scene in January, 2008 with dance company David Parker and the Bang Group in “Backward and in Heels” and has since presented “Niagara Falls,” “Passing By,” and “Show/Tell.” “Quince’s productions are a welcome alternative for theatergoers tired of the usual straight fare,” noted J. Cooper Robb of Philadelphia Weekly in his review of “Passing By” and “Show/Tell.” Samantha Lazar of uwishunu agreed: “Quince Productions is a newcomer to the Philly theatre scene. But with their eclectic mix of theatre, dance, music, and performance art, it looks like they’re here to stay.” Philly Gay Calendar’s Jessica L. Smith declared, simply: “Quince Productions (is) unstoppable!” All “Full House” performances are in the Red Room at Society Hill Playhouse (home of BCKSEET Productions).
