The Final Installation of Writing Aloud! 10th Anniversary Season Closes Popular Program at InterAct Theatre Company For Immediate Release: June 1, 2009
On Monday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m., InterAct Theatre Company’s 10th anniversary season of Writing Aloud concludes with three bittersweet stories by Philadelphia-area writers. This edition of Writing Aloud will be the final performance of the program. ABOUT The June 15 Program On Monday, June 15, the 2008-2009 season of Writing Aloud continues with three beautiful and evocative stories about loss, desire, connection, and coming of age. The June 15 program is the final performance of the 10th anniversary season of InterAct Theatre Company’s award-winning series Writing Aloud, featuring works by contemporary writers read aloud by Philadelphia’s best actors. This performance also marks the closing of the Writing Aloud program. Tickets for the performance, held at 7:00 p.m. on the mainstage at The Adrienne, 2030 Sansom Street, are $15.00 for general admission or $10.00 for InterAct subscribers. Seating is limited, so advance reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 215-568-8079. Discount subscriptions and group rates are also available. The June 15 Writing Aloud opens with “Lottery Man” written by Gloria Klaiman (of Jenkintown, PA) and read by Nancy Boykin (seen recently in DRIVING MISS DAISY at Hedgerow Theater). “Lottery Man” follows Gabrielle, who begins to learn about her beloved husband’s innermost thoughts only after he has passed away. The program continues with “Eleanor and Uncle Leonard,” written by Brenda Witmer (of Lancaster, PA) and read by Miriam White (artistic director of Nice People Theatre Company). “Eleanor and Uncle Leonard” depicts the unusual relationship between a grown man and a life-size doll, as seen through the eyes of his young niece, Paula. The program concludes with “Going Home,” written by Tom Teti (of Malvern, PA) and read by Tim Moyer (seen most recently as Polonius in HAMLET at Lantern Theatre). “Going Home” follows a father taking his teenage son to his old school, and really connecting with him for the first time. ABOUT THE WRITING ALOUD PROGRAM Established in 1999, Writing Aloudhas presented diverse voices in contemporary fiction by the region’s best writers, read on stage by professional actors, for ten years. Quickly distinguishing itself as the region’s premiere reading series, Writing Aloud has attracted sold-out audiences, has been featured in special broadcasts on WHYY-FM public radio and WXPN, and is a recipient of Philadelphia Magazine’s 2001 “Best of Philly” award. ABOUT INTERACT THEATRE COMPANY InterAct Theatre Company, lead by Producing Artistic Director Seth Rozin, is one of the nation’s leading centers for new writing in theatre, introducing important contemporary writers to audiences through its world premiere stage productions, developmental residencies, and Showcase of New Plays. The Writing Aloud program extends InterAct’s mission of cultivating and presenting diverse artistic voices into the realm of short fiction. THE CLOSING OF WRITING ALOUD After ten rich and successful seasons, it is with sadness and regret that InterAct announces the discontinuation of the Writing Aloudprogram. We will miss the contact with the Philadelphia area fiction-writing community and the opportunity to hear so many wonderful stories brought to life by some of our favorite local actors.
